Troll route

One day, six trolls, the right order.

Pick the trolls and when you leave the Fremont Troll. We order the stops for the least driving and check each park's hours against sunset.

All six Way of the Bird King trolls are free to visit. Two are on islands and need a ferry. The planner orders your stops for the least driving and flags any park you would reach after dusk.

Troll tour questions

How many troll sculptures are near Seattle?

Northwest Trolls: Way of the Bird King has six: one each in Ballard, West Seattle, Issaquah, Vashon Island and Bainbridge Island, plus one in Portland, Oregon. The Fremont Troll (1990) is not a Dambo work, but it is an easy place to start.

Can you see all the Washington trolls in one day?

Yes, with two ferry crossings: Pia is on Bainbridge Island and Oscar is on Vashon. The planner above gives the order and timing. Ferry legs count the crossing only, so add your own time for the wait. Parks close at dusk, so start early in fall and winter.

How long does it take to get to the Bainbridge Island troll?

About 18 minutes of driving from the Fremont Troll (to Colman Dock, then from the Bainbridge terminal to Sakai Park) plus about 35 minutes on the ferry, before any wait for a sailing.

How do you get to the Vashon Island troll?

By ferry only. From the Fremont Troll it is about 52 minutes of driving via the Fauntleroy terminal plus a 20 minute crossing. Point Robinson Park is open 8am to dusk.

How far is the Issaquah troll from Seattle?

About 35 minutes and 21.6 miles from the Fremont Troll without traffic. Jakob Two Trees is about 0.25 miles along the Rainier Trail from the Issaquah Community Center.

Do you need tickets for the troll tour?

No. All six trolls are free to visit in parks and public spaces. The Bainbridge and Vashon ferries charge fares; check WSF for current fares.
